Buffs

Buffs are status boosts granted to a player upon consuming, equipping, or otherwise activating various items. Active buffs are shown as icons below the hotbar, along with their remaining duration. Buffs are almost universally positive or at least benign effects, in contrast with Debuffs, over which the player has much less control.

Buffs can be easily activated with the buff hotkey (default {{key|B on PC), which activates all the buff-granting consumables in the player's inventory (starting from the top-left) that are not currently activated. A player is limited to 22 (10 on mobile) active buffs at any one point, and the leftmost in the bar will be deactivated if another is applied after this limit is reached. Most Buffs can be deactivated prematurely by right-clicking their icon, though those that are granted by proximity to an item will only deactivate when the player is no longer in range (see Environmental below).

Activated buffs are bound to a character, and persist as that character moves from server to server and from world to world. With the exception of those granted by Flasks, buffs are always deactivated on the player's death, though even Flasks are terminated along with the player.

Consumables

These buffs are provided from sources and consumed upon use, such as potions, flasks, and food.

Environmental

These buffs are provided by being in range of particular placed furniture, blocks, or NPCs. Static effects from objects like Peace Candle and Happy! have a range of 50 blocks (100×100 square).
