This is a Town NPC.

The Old Hermit is an NPC found in his hut, on Tutorial Island. He uses his knife for self-defence. He is involved in the quest Tutorial Troubles, helping teach the player about several things in Super Terraria World.

• "Well?! Spit it out already. I'm not very fond of strangers on my island."
• "Oh my goodness... Well.. I can see that you are in one piece... Well... Barely. How's your crew holding?"
• "I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm not surprised. I am surprised that you've made it here though."
• "Well... As you've seen there are monsters here on this island, and I don't think your ship crashed by accident... No. You see, I've lived on this island my whole life, and it wasn't always like this. I opened a small mine here in my younger days. I would trade the copper with the main land. I did this for most of my life. Hired on a few miners when I could. Everything seemed great... Well... Until those mages came."
• "Yes... They came from nowhere and camped out on that hill to the west. They could have easily killed me and my men, but they didn't so we let them be... Even if we heared strange noises at night."
• "No... They left... But then the problems came. You see... When they left... A giant purple crystal had appeared on the island. Now... lately there has been bad weather. The clouds seem to circle around the hill top."
• "I do... I've been studying it now for years. I think I know how to destroy it now, but my body has gotten weaker over the years. Can you help me?"
• "Come on, help an old man out..."
• "Oh bless you! I knew since you have survived this long on the island that you would be answer to save it! We've got some things to do before we can destroy it now."
• "First things first. You seem like... a fighter and possess the ability to use magic. Take this wand an old friend gave me. You can test it out on that... dummy."*
• "Okay... Now I've examined the crystal and I can be honest... I've smacked it with my pick without making a scratch. I believe we'll need some natural powers created from ingredients found on this island to help us."
• "I'm glad that you asked... You see... I think there is a reason those mages chose this island for that crystal of theirs, and specifically on that hill. You'll find a cave in that hill that has natural growing hallow crystals. I believe the mages were trying to corrupt them. Luckily for us it looks like they failed. Bring me some shards from these hallow crystals."
• "The next thing I'll have you to do is... catch an Arowana."
• "Yes... Take this pole and bait and catch an Arowana. You'll find them swimming in the river to the west of the hill."
• "Lastly, bring me some gel from one of those slime monsters. We'll use their essence against it! You got all of that?"
• "Okay... Bring me: Some crystal shards. An Arowana. A bit of Gel."
• "Excellent! I've used the gel as base for this potion. Combining it with the hallow properties of crystal shards and natural oils of the Arowana. When you drink this you will permanently have the ability to destroy the evil crystal that those mages summoned"
• "I can tell you drank the potion from the... aura (not your breath) that you're giving off. I think you're ready to destroy the crystal now. I will meet you on the summit of the hill to the west. Once up there head east and you'll find it. I want you to use any means to destroy it! Before we go though, do you want some supplies?"
• "Let me know if you need mode."
• "The crystal is right over there. Destroy it by any means! Do you want some supplies?"
• "Use Magic to break his shield!"
• "Fire back with ranged!"

• "Are... Are you alright? Your brave actions saved us and this island!"
• "It seemed to have appeared when you destroyed the crystal. Wait a minute... Did you notice the number of eyes it had? Yes... I've heared of this monster before, but it was supposed to be just a story. What we encountered was an Observer."
• "That's correct... They are evil creature of unknown origins. It is said that they can hide in plain sight and are a scouting monster... This is not good"
• "Not for finding the best place to have a picnic that's for sure! It's for an invasion! I don't know what is being planned by those mages, but they must have summoned it along with that Corruption Crystal! The crystal was probably used to help conceal the Observer while it watched over this island."
• "That is the true question. I'm... I'm not sure I have the answer. They were watching over this island for some reason, and they were trying to corrupt those hallow crystals... It's all connected somehow, but I'm not sure... You should leave this island. Head west until you reach the shore. There you will find a small boat. Take it to Sivania, it's the main land to the north west."
• "I'm not going to leave this island if that's what you're asking. I'll stay behind and keep an eye on things. I'll see if I can do some more research on the hallow crystals. You need to see what you can find in Sivania and the neighboring regions. I'm sure there is plenty to explore as well. You can train your skills and help around"
